Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church - La Porte, Indiana

Some brief historical highlights of where the Lord's hand of blessing
has led us through the years:

July 7, 1991    In response to a request from several families living in the area, the
Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) begins a preaching
station in Michigan City, Indiana.  This was organized by St. Paul,
Stevensville, MI, and served by pastors from southwestern Michigan.

1991-1995       Exploratory mission work is done by the Beautiful Savior nucleus
along with assistance from St. Paul, Stevensville.  "Exploratory with
manpower" status is denied during these years by the Wisconsin
Synod Board for Home Missions (BHM).

1995-1997       Exploratory work continues with the help of Vicar Joseph Johnson.

1997-1998       Exploratory work continues with the help of CRM Mark Falck.

1998               "Exploratory with manpower" status is granted by BHM.  This status
enables Beautiful Savior to begin calling from the field for a full-time
                      pastor.

1999               Beautiful Savior receives its first full-time pastor. Rev. Don Schultz
was called to serve Beautiful Savior in his first permanent assignment
into the ministry upon graduation from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary,
                      Mequon, WI (WLS).

2000               Members of Beautiful Savior cease worshiping at the Michigan City
YMCA, and begin worshiping at the Michigan City Holiday Inn.

2002               In the fall the members of Beautiful Savior decided to move out of the
Michigan City Holiday Inn in an effort to establish itself in a more
                      permanent location.

2003               Spring - During the early months of the year the congregation began
renting its current facility in La Porte, IN.  The first worship service
was held here in May 2003.

Summer - The congregation was able to purchase land on Johnson
Road, La Porte (two-tenths of a mile west of Crichfield Elementary
School).  The property is the site of the future home of the
                      congregation.

2003-2005       Mission work is on-going in the LaPorte/Michigan City area.

2004               Spring - Pastor Schultz accepted a call to serve as a religion instructor
at a Lutheran high school in Lake Mills, WI.

Summer - Beautiful Savior received its second full-time pastor when
Rev. Matthew Kiecker was called to serve here in his first permanent
assignment into the ministry upon graduation from WLS.

2006              The Lord has blessed us with groundbreaking and the start of construction
of our first permanent church facility.  We anticipate worshiping in our new
                      church in the summer.

Oct. 2006       Our new church is finished!  We moved in during October and held the Dedication
Service on October 29th.  We thank the Lord and all that had a part in
providing us with our beautiful new church home.
